Texas: The New California?

For many years, Texas was a wild place for the adventurous. People rarely went to the leading cities of Houston and Dallas.

But over recent years, there’s been a significant shift. Texas isn’t just popular, it’s almost becoming a new California.

There are a couple of reasons for this. The first is the low cost of living. Texas is an up-and-comer and had to fight for its place in the pantheon of great states. California, on the other hand, has been at the top for many years and allowed the cost of living to rise higher than most people want.

Texas is also a travel destination because, like the Bear State, it also has great weather most of the year. It’s hot, sunny, and pleasant, and the landscape isn’t bad either.

Are you considering a trip to Texas? If so, here are some of the places in the state you’ll want to check out.

While it might not be as big as Dallas or Houston in terms of population, Austin is a place that punches above its weight in terms of culture and affluence. Many years ago, it was just a small hipster town. How the state’s capital is now famous for having an active music scene and plenty of nearby food trucks to satisfy your tastebuds.

Another location worth visiting is the NASA space center in Houston (the reason for the famous Apollo 13 line “Houston, we have a problem!”)

While parts of the space center are still in use, tourists can explore most of it and view artifacts and relics from the original Apollo missions. The Texas government takes care of these well, allowing you to peer into the past and marvel at the first age of astronauts.

Indulge In Texan Food

America is famous for doing everything bigger and better than everyone else. And Texas is famous for outshining the rest of the country when it comes to sheer size.

This principle applies to everything, including the local food. Whether it’s an Italian restaurant in Plano or a BBQ shack in San Antonio, the state has something for everyone.

What’s remarkable about Texas’s food scene is the sheer level of effort chefs put into their dishes. The state is home to famous grills that roast meat the old-fashioned way and restaurants run by first- and second-generation immigrants who understand how to recreate authentic flavors.

Go To Cadillac Ranch

If you’re interested in exploring the quirky side of Texas, consider taking a trip to the Cadillac Ranch. Here you can marvel at the world’s largest pecan and ask yourself why God allowed it.

There are also numerous opportunities to view sporting events depending on the time of year you go, including seeing the Dallas Cowboys in action, one of the most famous teams in the nation.

Visit The Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District

Finally, the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is another popular tourist location worth checking out. It has a twice-daily cattle drive and a famous pub crawl.
